I was issued a citation, now what?
Follow the instructions on the citation and accompanying informational pamphlet. They will indicate whether or not you are required to appear in court, court date and time, violation, fine amount, and demerit points assessed. Additional questions can be answered by calling 608-798-4101.
Can I park on village streets during the winter?
Absolutely, park away! However, when there is 2 inches of snow, no vehicles may be parked on Village roads until the road has been plowed curb to curb. Also, there is no parking when specifically posted.
I am going on vacation, can the police department keep an extra watch on my house?
Yes, in the spirit of community policing, the police department conducts vacation checks for those wishing to have an officer keep an extra eye on their home. Contact Lisa for more information at 608-798-4100, Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:00pm or visit our Residence Vacation Check Request page.
how do I register my bicycle? do I have to register my bicycle?
The Village of Cross Plains does have an ordinance that states: "No person who resides within the Village shall operate...a bicycle within the Village unless that bicycle is registered with the Village Police Department" (Ord. 51.14)....However, this ordinance has been deemed "desuetude," meaning no longer enforced. While the municipal registration of bicycles is no longer enforced, safe and legal ridership/rules of the road is enforced.

We do issue bicycle registration stickers at the police department. The information is kept on file so we can locate the rightful owner of a bicycle in the event of it being stolen or lost. Registering bicycles has been an effective measure on behalf of owners to mitigate loss. Is it required though? No, not anymore.
